NY Times Article: All but Ageless, Turtles Face Their Biggest Threat: Humans

I know when I was a child, I used to see plenty of turtles in the neighborhood, but since one old house was torn down and several homes were built in it's place, I haven't seen any turtles. TThe article below prompted me to write the city where I grew up to share my history and this article, and ask that if are appropriate measures in place to protect the natural wildlife and bring back wildlife (i.e. turtles) that may have been harmed due to past activities.
